Pregnancy

Pregnancy Program

Our pregnancy program includes acupuncture, acupressure, massage, yoga, mindfulness, nutrition and safe herbs. It is designed to compliment the care that you are already receiving from your obstetrician or midwife. We are here to guide, comfort, and support you through each trimester.

We understand that your goal is to have a happy and healthy pregnancy! We help address pain relief, miscarriage prevention, labour preparation, induction, and support a calm emotional state and general wellbeing. We can even help properly position your baby to avoid or remedy breech presentation.

Once you are pregnant, pregnancy treatments will take place regularly. As well as helping you have a healthy delivery and preventing pregnancy loss, pregnancy treatments offer relief from:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture and massage offer women a drug-free alternative to managing their health and well-being during pregnancy. Acupuncture and massage can promote the proper flow of blood during pregnancy, and it can help quell pregnancy pain or discomfort such as pelvic pain, lower back pain, morning sickness and nausea.

Acupuncture can ease the labour process and prevent the need for further medical intervention. It can also stimulate and regulate the body’s hormones, like oxytocin and other endorphins.

And while acupuncture is a safe, natural, and reliable form of healthcare, a healthy pregnancy also depends on adequate rest, a suitable diet, and emotional well-being. That’s why we also offer individualized treatments that promote overall pregnancy health while encouraging women to maintain a regular relationship with their midwives or OB/GYNs.

Acupuncture, acupressure and moxibustion therapy are also effective in helping to turn breech babies. Acupuncture treatments in the last couple of weeks leading up to your due date can also help help make labour easier and less painful.

Postnatal Care

Being a new mom can be exhausting and we can provide acupuncture and herbal treatments to help regain your energy and strength.

Our postnatal treatment plan includes acupuncture, acupressure, mindfulness, nutrition and safe herbs. We help to rebalance, restore, and replenish the body after giving birth, thereby enhancing the health of both mother and child. Treatments are especially helpful for women experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, insomnia, low breast milk production, and blocked milk duct or mastitis.

While acupuncture is a safe, natural, and reliable form of healthcare, a healthy postpartum experience also depends on adequate rest, a suitable diet, and emotional well-being.

Some of the ailments we can aid you with include:

  • Painful breasts
  • Back pain
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Constipation
  • Mastitis

Nutrition

A healthy balanced meal is important throughout a woman’s entire life but it is particularly important while she is pregnant. This is because what she eats is not only going nourish her but also the life that is growing inside her. As a result it is a good time to re-evaluate eating habits and dietary issues.

In order to aid you in your quest for proper nutrition we may suggest certain vitamins, consistent meal times, and different types of foods.

It is also, very important to maintain a healthy diet after your baby is born. This is because your body needs those nutrients from whole foods in order to properly heal and recover from the nine months it primarily focused on caring and nourishing your baby. Also, some foods can actually aid in times of need. For example, Aduki beans can actually promote milk production after a woman has given birth.

What you eat after pregnancy plays a vital role in maintaining emotional and physical balance and nourishment for you and your baby. Eating a nutrient-rich diet increases your energy and blood production, and translates into better and more nutrient-rich milk for your baby.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga is beneficial for expecting mothers at any stage in their pregnancy. During pregnancy the body goes through major changes in a short period of time to help compensate for the life growing within us. Yoga helps with these changes as it stretches, lengthens and releases those areas in the body that experience the most demand during the entire nine months. It helps to reduce the pain in the shoulders, lower back (including Sciatica), hips, and legs as well as helps in preparing your body for birth.

This class offers an opportunity to unite with your baby through your breath work and a gentle asana practice. Yoga offers you the opportunity to relax and strengthen your body as you nourish your baby through all phases of the journey you share together.

We offer group prenatal classes as well as one-one-one personalized yoga sessions.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is a non-invasive, drug-free alternative that helps women manage common pregnancy conditions and improve their total health and well-being, as well as the health of the baby.

Massage is safe for pregnancy. It provides relief from sinus congestion, breast soreness, leg cramps, edema or swelling, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, sciatica, varicose veins, abdominal pressure, anemia, nausea, carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome, and numbness or paralysis.

We offer massage throughout the entire gestational period but customize treatment plans and schedules to suit your individual needs.

Induction Massage

Induction massage can increase the hormones that enable the body to naturally begin the labouring process. It is used if you are past your due date or have a planned medical induction.

Combining relaxation massage, acupressure, and shiatsu techniques, induction massage can significantly shorten the time between the due date and delivery time. After the treatment, you will receive instruction on how to self-administer acupressure to certain points to further stimulate the induction process and shorten labour time once labour has begun.
